Open-Cell Memory Foam: A Useful Feature, Not a Cooling Guarantee

Understand open-cell memory foam, airflow claims and what the term can and cannot tell you.

Open-cell memory foam uses a cellular structure intended to allow air to move through the material more readily. The term can explain part of a mattress's design, but it does not guarantee a cool sleep experience.

Evaluate the whole mattress

Foam formulation, layer thickness, cover, room temperature, bedding and how closely the mattress contours all influence temperature. Treat manufacturer airflow testing as product-specific evidence rather than a universal rule.
