Mattress Motion Isolation: Why Movement Transfer Matters

Learn what motion isolation means and why couples and light sleepers may care about it.

Motion isolation describes how well a mattress limits movement from spreading across the sleep surface. It can matter when partners keep different schedules, move frequently or wake easily.

Construction affects it

Memory foam often absorbs movement well because it responds locally and has low bounce. Hybrids can still isolate motion effectively, but coil and comfort-layer design matter.

Do not evaluate motion isolation in isolation: ease of movement and edge support can pull the decision in another direction.
